Real Madrid vs. Barcelona: The three issues Carlo Ancelotti and team are dealing with following the El Clasico loss
Real madrid vs. barcelona: issues. Something is amiss at Real Madrid after they were held without a shot on goal in the first leg of their Copa Del Rey quarterfinal loss to rival Barcelona. Las Blancos, who were defeated 1-0, had just won the Champions League and La Liga the previous season. But in soccer, it only takes a single season for things to change, especially when players like Casemiro leave the team.
After experiencing the high of defeating Liverpool in the Champions League, Real Madrid went on to draw with a 10-man Atletico Madrid team before losing to Barcelona at home. It now appears that the Liverpool game was more of a cover for Real Madrid’s problems than a sign that the team is where it wants to be.
Real madrid vs. barcelona: issues. Real Madrid have become a weak team less than a month after losing to Mallorca, but what are some of the issues the team is dealing with?

Major three problems:
Vinicius Jr. occasionally exhibits one-dimensionality
Because Real Madrid didn’t have to worry about assaulting Barcelona via the middle of the field, Barcelona’s game plan was successful. No one was running through the centre for Karim Benzema to find with his fantastic passing if he dropped deep to get the ball. Although Barcelona sat deep to keep things in front of them, Viniciu Jr. is someone who can be looked to if teams move forward. As a result, the game lacked the trademark Viniciu Jr. run into space to terrorise the opposition.
Only two of his six crosses into the box were accurate, and of his one shot, which was not on target. Vini Jr. has the potential to be one of the world’s most electrifying players on occasion, but consistency in his play is something he needs to work on if he wants to lead Real Madrid, especially after Benzema retires. Vini Jr. demonstrated his abilities in the victory over Liverpool with two goals and an assist, but Madrid needs that player in bigger games like this if they want to win a significant trophy this year. They got it from him in the Champions League final the previous year, but they’ll need even more to win the Copa del Rey.
In the middle, Eduardo Camavinga isn’t cutting it.
Camavinga was one of the most sought-after young prospects in the world when Real Madrid acquired him from Rennes. He has had the opportunity to learn from players like Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos, who can be shaped into either a defensive or box-to-box midfielder. There are few things better than that. Yet this year, when Carlo Ancelotti has relied on Camavinga to deliver, he has failed to deliver at crucial times in games.
For Barcelona’s lone goal, it was a giveaway by Camavinga that led to Franck Kessie’s shot that was saved off of Militao, and Camavinga losing the ball starting a counter-attack has become all too common of an occurrence for Real Madrid. He has been fine in defense where his work rate and skills in possession have helped keep Real Madrid balanced but when Ancelotti needs midfielders, Camavinga hasn’t been able to rise to the occasion to shine in the middle of the park. Experience could help him with this but similarly to Luka Jovic being sent to Fiorentina, time waits for no one in Madrid.
Depth is starting to become a major concern
There were times when Real Madrid were one of the deepest squads in the world but that isn’t the case this season. Despite still splashing cash, it feels wrong to call this edition of the squad Galacticos with only 13 players logging more than 1000 league minutes. It feels like Ancelotti doesn’t trust his depth players and a lot of that has to do with the fitness of Eden Hazard, who has been given minutes to see if he can perform as a false nine when Benzema was injured but he couldn’t run with those to make a difference.
Because they at least possess the drive to continue competing in these games, Ancelotti has now resorted to young players like 18-year-old Alvaro Munoz, who scored the equalising goal against Atletico Madrid. Yet with players like Lucas Vazquez and Hazard on the roster, Ancelotti is operating with one hand tied behind his back if they can’t be trusted.
All of this adds up to the reason why it would be unexpected if Real Madrid won a significant trophy this year. They could only have the Club World Cup to show for the season for a club in transition, with even speculation increasing that Ancelotti might leave to take charge of Brazil. There is still time to turn things around, but the matchups will only become harder, so time is running out rapidly.
